On Premise Laundry

Experience

On Premise Laundry

Before laundromats, on premise laundries (OPL’s) were the majority of our business & where our team set the standard in Aged Care, Hospitality, Healthcare & Marine applications.

There are many things to consider when looking at bringing your laundry on-site for the 1st time or upgrade existing equipment. Our Team has decades of experience & is here to curate a bespoke solution to suit your facility’s unique demands & minimise labour.

Service

On Premise Laundry

There are many sites which have equipment still running for over 20 years, a testament to reliability & long term support, which we ensure is available well past the expected life of the product.

When partnering with a supplier, select one who prioritises in-house service & makes the investment into van stocked with critical part inventories, smaller suppliers will outsource service & due to them not keeping van stock, will often need several visits that ELS NZ will complete in 1 visit.

OPL’s will see higher usage with more aggressive chemistry than laundromats, hence equipment needs to be maintained more regularly, generally every 1500 cycles or 6 months if running 8 turns per day. Your long term maintenance cost will reduce substantially by selecting Econic Laundry Solutions.

Parts

On Premise Laundry

We carry one of New Zealand’s largest inventories of spare parts, this isn’t just marketing & a reality experienced by our long-term customers who trust us to minimise downtimes.

By ELS NZ partnering with the world’s leading brands, we ensure we have access to parts affordably long term, something all smaller suppliers will struggle to support.

Due to the volumes of parts suppliers like Electrolux Professional ship, they have preferential freight rates, which keeps airfreight costs down, even to a remote place like New Zealand.

Efficiency

On Premise Laundry

Selecting the most efficient equipment for your business is where our Team shines & priorities proposed solutions, it’s in our name Econic.

Making a decision on equipment that’s designed to last 30’000 cycles or 8 cycles per day for 10 years, means the carbon footprint must be carefully considered.

Selecting a washer with an accelerometer, that weighs the load & adjust chemistry, are expected technologies today were first introduced by Electrolux Professional

Selecting a dryer with axial airflow, moisture balance & reversing drum are the best ways of picking a solution with the future in mind. We will also see heat pump dryers dominate the market going forward, which cut energy usages by 60% & now promote similar dry times.

Separation

On Premise Laundry

Maintaining separation of dirty & clean areas of the laundry are important to help avoid cross contamination. This can be done by creating clearly marked areas in the laundry or selecting a barrier washer, which has 2 doors for clean & dirty, the best for separation possible & becoming a norm around the world in health & aged care.

Using different coloured trollies to help sort & manage the laundry helps in this process:

  • Red for dirty
  • Yellow for foul / rewash / stained
  • Blue for clean

Detergent

On Premise Laundry

Automatic liquid dosing is the standard in the OPL environment, this simplifies operations & helps maintain standards. With many suppliers now offering Wi-Fi monitoring with validation of dosed volume & thermal disinfection.

Our latest Clarus Vibe controller allows the load to be weighed, with detergent / water being adjusted accordingly, meaning lower chemical costs & improved rinsing. With underloading in Aged Care averaging 30% & healthcare averaging 20%, this means a +20% reduction in your chemical bill. Make sure you mandate this feature inactivated, especially if you are on a drum rate, if you are on a per kg rate this can be used to reduce your rate 😉 Savings with our most popular washer, WH6-27CV, with 24KG @ DOL 1:10.

  • 24 kg x $0.10 per kg = $2.40 per cycle
  • $2.40 per cycle x 30’000 cycles = $72,000 over machines life
  • Savings @ 20% = $14,400
  • Savings @ 30% = $21,600

Temperature

On Premise Laundry

You need temperature to clean laundry effectively, the standards stipulate 71C for 3 minutes or 65C for 10 minutes, however you can’t wash clothing at these temperatures & normally 30 to 40C, thus rely on chemical disinfection in this circumstance.

Chemical disinfection is a great way of disinfecting, which can be validated by a chemical supplier using flow meters & Wi-fi in their dosing solution.

Cold water washing isn’t recommended, the company benefiting with this arrangement is normally the chemical company due to higher dosages & the textiles washed normally suffer faster degradation. If the cost of hot water is a concern, opt for heat pump hot water systems which reduce the thermal cost by 60%.

Formula

  • Pt = (4.2 x L x T) / 3600
  • Pt = power used to heat water
  • L = number of liters of water to be heated
  • T = the difference between starting temp & target temp

Example

  • WH6-27 heating from 40 to 60C
  • (4.2 x 58 x 25) / 3600 = 1.69 kW
  • 1.69 kW x $0.25 = $0.42 per cycle

Comparison

  • Chemical cost @ $2.40 per cycle
  • Age care saving using Clarus Vibe @ 30% = $0.72 (free savings)
